Once learning about fabulous wine regions in Michigan and limited promotion, photography or written material at the time, my friend, Sharon Kegerreis, and I trekked across the state and discovered the amazing stories of the hardworking people behind the scenes. Thus, From the Vine: Exploring Michigan Wineries was born. Shortly after, we were hired by the Michigan Department of Agriculture to document the states wine history back to the 1980s. What we discovered, however, was a dynamic wine industry in Michigan in the mid-to-late 1800s, during Prohibition and for three decades after Prohibition. The cool story is told in our second book, The History of Michigan Wines: 150 Years of Winemaking along the Great Lakes.
